Does anyone know if there is a fix for the Tandem App which constantly disconnects on a daily basis?? I asked for help on this over a year ago and basically get no answer other than sorry. šŸ™ƒ ---

Hey Jim. Well the good news is the app is a toy for the x2 itā€™s not necessary, so I get why itā€™s a pia but at least you not using mobi which requires a phone. Hereā€™s what doctor Google thinks I believe the battery management notes are plausible. Android-Specific Optimization - \*\*Disable Battery Optimization (Crucial):\*\*Androidā€™s ā€œBattery Saverā€ mode often kills background apps. Go to Settings \> Apps \> Tandem App \> Battery and set it to **Unrestricted** or **Donā€™t Optimize**. - **Allow Background Data:** Ensure the app can run in the background. Go to Settings \> Apps \> Tandem App \> Data Usage and ensure **Background Data** is enabled, and **Restrict app background data** is disabled. - **Clear Cache:** In the app settings, clear the cache to remove temporary files that might interfere with connectivity. ---

And I also wanted to note that mobi connectivity is awesome not only are disconnects infrequent, but when I charge mobi while Iā€™m in the shower it reconnects to my phone in seconds. Tandem clearly has a bug or reception issue with x2. Good luck ā˜˜ā˜® ---

Jim @cathmets , supplementing what @Joe wrote, I will add that IN MY OPINION, the signal quality of my two years old t-Slim is much less effective than it was with my two earlier t-Slim. Have you plugged in to Tandem Source recently to see if your pump has updates? When my t-Slim was rather new, the battery would drain very quickly; a plug-in long enough to do an upload fixed that issue [I think that service automatically does a system check], and since I upgraded to OS 7,10.3 I havenā€™t noticed any disconnect on my Galaxy S2 35TH there than when I left it in the car. ---

Hello Joe. The app may be a toy but it shows alot more information that I need from time to time if not daily. I have reason to believe the first option you showed to ā€œDisable Battery Optimizationā€ and set it to donā€™t optimize may have worked!! Iā€™ll see after about a day though. Thanks so much for your help as this has been bugging me for many years now. . . šŸ™‚ ---

Yeah. For many years the FOSS apps had this problem because of the changing rules in Android. Itā€™s part of the ā€œmy battery lasts longerā€ battle between Apple and the Android world, but because Android is distributed different implementations (e.g. Samsung) do different things. AAPS used to have a ā€œdo not kill my appā€ popup! Disabling battery optimisation helps, but my understanding is that it should be done on a per-app basis. For us having the battery last a decent length of time is important and if that kills a few SM apps (facebook, twitter, LINEā€¦) thatā€™s probably a good thing. What I do is to go into the Android settings (which, of course, change with every micro-release) and find the app settingsā€¦ Iā€™m using Android 15 on a OnePlus; Samsungs have many proprietary features, open Settings, find ā€œAppsā€, notice that ā€œBatteryā€ is immediately below that. Click on Apps/App management (i.e. Apps **then** App managment), scroll down to the t:slim app (same for any other app, xDrip+, AAPS etc), click there, then: Click ā€œBattery usageā€: Allow background activity: Allow all background activity. This should gray-out ā€œoptimize battery useā€; you want that. There may be other things t:slim needs; I was quoting from AAPS but xDrip+ (which I also require because it connects to my iCGM) is the same. The counterpoint is that _every other app on your phone should have ā€œallow background activityā€ turned off_\_, with the possible exception of ā€œGoogle Mapsā€ for the ā€œFind my Pancreasā€ option. The way I look at it is that itā€™s my Pancreas and I donā€™t want someone interrupting it; Iā€™m considering the Mobi (at the behest of my Endo) so Iā€™ve very interested if it **does not** work. The other general approach, well worth doing is this (again, this is Android 15 on a non-a-Samsung phone): o Settings/Battery (same syntax as before; the ā€œ/ā€ means next step). o Scroll down, observe: A list of apps by battery usage. Check the settings on every single one until you get to the t:slim app and either **uninstall** that app or **cancel** itā€™s ability to drain the battery (the first is easier). On my ā€˜phone AAPS uses, currently, 46.85% of the battery followed by apps that I use every day interactively and then, eventually, xDrip+ (which reads my G7 and has amazingly low battery usage, wish I could write software like that!) Jim, mine is showing 7.10.3 I did update my software to accept the latest Libre in case I decide to change my choice of CGM ---

Hello again Joe! So your suggestions worked but only for about 8 days. . . I double checked to make sure none of the settings changed but to no avail. Plugging my Tandem pump into their software seems to show my version of OS 7.10.ā€2ā€ is up to date. Any other suggestions here? Regards, Jim ---

So frustrating. These steps you gave me worked for a whole week and something changed after that time period. Now, about every few hours itā€™s doing the same thing again. ā€œLost connection about x hours agoā€. Ugh. Yet my Dexcom app NEVER goes down. What is wrong with the Tandem T-Slim app??? Why donā€™t they do anything about this? Oy. Iā€™ll just tell my Endo and Diabetic Educator to just use the Dexcom app going forward. Yet the T-Slim has much more important data. . . To make sure your providers have all the data they need to help you upload your pump data from the tslim:x2 at least once a month using either the app or the Tandem Source website on a computer connected to the pump with a USB cable. Based on the testing youā€™ve done the Tandem app works but something on your phone is preventing it from running and communicating with the pump in the background. ā€œSomethingā€ in this case includes the Android OS. Double check the setting you changed last week havenā€™t changed. After that you have to decide if you want to ask for help and do the work to figure out why the app isnā€™t running in the background. ---

This is decidedly less technical than some of the recommendations you have received, but I remember ā€œtheyā€ used to suggest you try deleting apps - something in the coding of one might be interfering with the one youā€™re trying to use. ---
