Hi Everyone! I’m a new T1D, going on three years now, i’m considered LADA latent autoimmune diabetic adult in late 50s. I guess I carried the possibility all along. My aunt had JT1D and my mom died of an autoimmune disease a (rare one). The most comforting thing i’ve heard from anyone yet was my Endocrinologists telling me I haven’t done anything wrong that brought this on, although in Africa for 2 years I had Typhoid fever and its believed that a traumatic bacteria like TF could have been the beginning of my autoimmune system activating T1D. I’m lucky, I have no complications, use a G6 monitor an manage my levels and for me, i’ve figured out the diet, exercise and VITAMIN routine that keeps me from feeling like i’m being drained of all my energy. I didn’t learn not even half of what I know now from my Doctor but rather from people who live with T1D. My heart goes out to all of us for this is a real Mr. Toads Wild Ride - full of unsuspecting turns and ups and downs - hard to keep a finger on the pulse of it all. Accepting that has been key for me. Wishing everyone a meaningful New Year, Mary
