hello! ive been dealing with t1d for 3 years now, currently using an omnipod 5 paired with the dexcom g7. for awhile now, whenever i put a pump on it is about a 50/50 chance it actually works or not, and when it dosent, it always bleeds when i remove it. i use my stomach mainly, but have been trying my arms, back, and legs with no success. it leads to constant high blood sugar and ketones. i thought i would see if anyone has a solution as it is leading you many sleepless night, added stress to school and work, and a huge concern for my long term health.
@willygjamzWelcome Will to the Breakthrough T1D Community Forum!
I do not use the OmniPod so I can’t offer any first hand tips or experiences, but from what other folks have told me about the Omni, your experience is very unusual. I suggest that you contact the OmniPod, Insulet, customer support soon and ask for their expert advice,
Hi Will. I’ve been on Omnipod for a couple of years now and have an occasional site issue but nothing that frequent and I’ve never had bleeding. When I started on Omnipod I just did the online training but in person sessions can be withwhile to find the technique.
That said, the bleeding is curious but in case it’s a red herring can you go into a little more detail about what’s going on? I’m wondering if it might have to do with your background settings? When starting on a pump the initial ones your doctor assigns may need to be fine tuned.
Hello! Thanks for the response. Ive changed settings a whole lot, and when a pump works, it really works great. It’s strange because a pump that has worked does not bleed when I take it off. When one doesn’t work, it does bleed though. Usually a very tiny amount, too.
Although the bleeding does not happen every time, and you seem to have found areas that are particularly prone to it, you might see about getting checked for a bleeding disorder. Likewise, if you take aspirin regularly you might ask your doctor if that could be the cause, in which case they could might some adjustments.
