This convo made me dig deeper…and watch a few videos on cartridge loading. Made me worry that I’m not getting air out properly…so I just changed cartridge and site. Will watch sugars and see if there is an improvement.

Karen @T1Dx2, I remember the argument I gave myself to continue having insulin in the syringe when purging the cartridge of air.
When I purge, my syringe is only half full with insulin - one third with insulin and two thirds empty - and I withdraw the syringe out to the 3 cc limit thus creating significant suction. When releasing the suction, there could be a chance of drawback into the syringe. With insulin in the syringe, any drawback into the cartridge is insulin, NOT AIR. A safety.
Note too, that the more insulin in the syringe to begin with means less suction in the purge effort.
Yes…I feel silly that I got lazy but I think this really is the best way. Short cuts don’t always work…thanks for talking this one thru with me!!
