Through the past couple of years, I’ve been able to lose an excessive amount of weight. Even though it’s been really rewarding to do so, now I’m noticing since I have saggy skin on my stomach that it’s hard to get my insulin pump site to work – my Medtronic Quick Set infusion tube will get kinked when it’s inserted into the skin. Please tell me I’m not the only one that is experiencing this and someone has a recommendation? My doctor unfortunately was not any help in advising of a solution.
hi @ckheim Carla welcome to Breakthrough T1d. I used quicksets for years. The only reason I changed was because I left Medtronic for Tandem and Tandem has a similar set which I still use. Site failures can happen and with the plastic cannula in the quickset, it can happen often.
Some people do much better with “Sure - T” , it is an all metal infusion set and it will not kink. Some people have better results with a shorter cannula depth - are you using 6 or 9MM depth set? there are also angled sets, trying new sets now that you’ve lost a lot of weight may be helpful. Medtronic will give you samples if you aske them (and get the right service person).
Metal sets like sure-t may be out of stock due to nickel shortages - keep that in mind.
Also, have you considered other sites? you can use arms, legs, and my favorite is the top of my butt. Finding new sites may or may not be helpful for your site failure issue, I guess what’s more important is rotating your sites to help prevent scarring.
Hope you get some help and relief!
Thank you SO much for your feedback – I will consider all these options!
