I’m not a diabetic and weigh 280 lbs and have suffered with low blood sugars for over 3 years. It’s been life changing for me with always carrying around juice, bananas, anything in case it drops. After going to my doctor countless times and an endocrinologist, I had no answers and was told to lose weight and eventually I will not have anymore issues with low sugars. I purchased a Hypoglycemia diet book. I made all the recipes for the week. I can’t believe for the first time in over 3 years, my blood sugars are in the 5-6 range. It’s mainly a high protein diet but it works. I’m now starting my 3 week in 4 days and I’m down 12 lbs and have not had one episode of my sugars dropping. This book is a life saver.
hello @heartsbeats I am very glad that you found something that works for you and we all wish you continued success! Our self-help forum participants all have type 1 diabetes and we must use insulin, typically injected or infused via pump, and so we all identify with and are intimately aware of hypoglycemic reactions and how we must carry carbs with us for the rest of our lives. I have to comment that even strict ketogenic diets will require type 1 diabetics to use insulin and hypoglycemia is an everlasting and completely unavoidable issue for us, no matter what our diet consists of. Many of us restrict or at least regulate carbohydrates, but for us it is because a lower carb, controlled fat diet limits the extremes of our hourly blood sugar control struggle.
Once again welcome, and congratulations on finding a diet which helps you manage your situation!
