Does anyone have any extra Dexcom G6s that they’d be willing to part with? I have some G7s I can trade, as well, but my experience with the G7s has been dismal, and my insurance company won’t pay for a new 3-month supply until about 3 weeks after I run out of the G6s.
If no one has any they can share, does anyone have any recommendations for the best place to buy a few individual units?
If you’re not able to get any Dexcoms what about using Freestyle Libre? You’ll still need a prescription but they are less expensive - according to GoodRx you can get two Libre3, 14-day sensors for under $150 at many pharmacies in my area (your location may be different).
It won’t work with a smart pump so you would have to “go manual,” but at least you won’t have to stick your fingers.
Thanks, Chris. For me, the G7s lose signal intermittently all day and all night long–they seem to not pick up a blood sugar something like half the time. It completely stops my pump’s smart dosing feature and my blood sugars go out of control. I’m complaining to Dexcom, but need something to get through the upcoming 2 week drought.
In that case check Goodrx for their prices - they often have coupons you can apply but I’m not sure you can use them if you have insurance even if the plan will not cover the order.
What pump do you have? Most if not all have a manual mode you can use without the CGM readings - I believe even the ilet does that at least for a short time. If you do not know how contact your doctor. You should already have basal rates in place to use in situations like this.
Dexcom revised the antenna design on the G7 after it was released, the FDA approved the change this summer, I assume they’ve started manufacturing the new design by now so the improved version just needs to work its way through the supply chain to you. But that doesn’t solve todays problem.
You can wear the G7 on the abdomen if that gets it closer to the pump. The trick is to not cover both the pump and the senor with your body when sleeping. Humans are big donuts filled with water and bluetooth can’t go through water. If your pump is a Tandem tslim the antenna in it is most sensitive in the direction the screen is facing.
If you go the retail pharmacy route definitely ask at the counter to do a coupon search to try to lower the price in addition to having the GoodRx coupon handy. The pharmacists on reddit say the pharmacy coupon lookup tools “always” find a better price than the GoodRx coupons.
