My 15 year old child has just been diagnosed with T1D.
I was pretty shocked to find that the standard Abbot LibreLinkUp app only gives one alarm once BG passes the upper or lower limit. Tonight my kid slept through 3 hypos when the alarm went off. Potentially if they were half asleep they could clear the alarm and then fall asleep and not get another alert.
My question is, should I be able to run two apps on thier phone?
One would be the standard Abbot LibreLinkUp app which I believe our hospital support staff need to remotely access the data, and
Another app like [Shuggah]
(among many) that gives us better functionality like ongoing alarms.
So can the Libre2 sensor connect with two apps on the one device? This way I can test side by side too.
Hello @Pins Indy. Sorry to hear your child has joined out club. They are welcome to join the forum themselves to ask questions and talk to the other teenage members.
Regarding the Suggah app and Libre 2, try it but don’t rely on it. I checked Suggah and found unlike most apps its actually trying to connect to the Libre 2 via bluetooth. I had a 3rd party app when I had a Libre, it was handy but didn’t have any of the protections built in so it would show out of range numbers and show values even when the sensor was throwing errors. Apple pulled that app, I expect them to pull Suggah too as soon as Abbott complains about it.
Phones have options to repeat alarms for notifications. Using this would be better than a second app. Also better, look into a Libre 3 or a Dexcom CGM. The Libre 2 was okay when it came out but not awesome, for most people the Dexcom is more accurate, especially with lows
Hello @Pins you should be able to run librelink or librelinkup (check with the Abbot website) and have it alarm on your phone. As a backup. Sugarpixel is a 3rd party dedicated monitor with configurable alarm you can google it.
Thanks. I’ll check out sugarpixel. We already have the app alerting on the phone. The problem is the Libre app doesn’t keep alerting if BGL keeps dropping say if you didn’t wake up. Thanks for tip.
I use Dexcom rather than Freestyle so won’t chime in on connections, but just wanted to suggest setting the phone to vibrate - I often silence my phone but still feel the notifications.
