Omnipod 5 g6-extras

Hi everyone,

We are making the transition to Dexcom g7 from Dexcom g6. We have four boxes of Omnipod 5 that are only compatible with Dexcom g6. I am really hoping that the pharmacy trades them in for boxes compatible with Dexcom G6/G7. If they don’t, does anyone know if the omnipod company would trade them in? I have no idea how to go on about it, and doubt the insurance will give us another prescription of pods at the moment.

Thanks for any advice!

Pharmacy (as well as the manufacturer) will not take back prescriptions. The choices are donate them or toss them. I googled medical supply donations and found this

You can donate diabetes supplies to organizations like:

  • Insulin for Life: A non-profit that collects diabetes supplies in the US and redistributes them globally
  • Integrated Diabetes Services: Accepts diabetes supply donations
  • Diabetes Foundation: Accepts diabetes supply donations from New Jersey residents
  • MedShare: Accepts medical supply and equipment donations

I’ll set this post to auto-close so someone doesn’t find it 4 years from now and ask about if you still have them! :grinning:

Check your box - I’m doing the same thing and had a box of Omnipod5 pods left when I placed my first G7 order. It turns out they are compatible with both. From Dexcom’s website,

Omnipod® 5 with Dexcom G7 is now available at your preferred pharmacy. The new Pods are compatible with both Dexcom G6 and G7 and will use the same prescription code as the previous Omnipod 5 Pods. This means you won’t need a new prescription and users will have similar insurance coverage and access to what they have with Omnipod 5 today.

Unless you have older pods the ones you have may be okay.

Alexa @arodric5002 , in addition to the two options @Joe made, the third option for your sister would be to ise those Pods. Yes, that may then be a month where she doesn’t have assisted [AID] basal insulin dosing - like in the manner you and she managed a year ago.
