Insulet has issued a second Medical Device Correction (recall) for the same tubing defect in additional Omnipod 5 lots and expanded the recall to include some Dash and Eros pods.
May 2026 Urgent Medical Device Correction | Omnipod
March 2026 Urgent Medical Device Correction | Omnipod
Omnipod 5 users need to check both, other pod users just need to check the May MDC.
All my pods have been recalled so I have to go back to MDI. I already msg’d my doc for new pen 'script.
One box of my last 3-month supply matched the online checks. It is very important to check all the lot numbers; they are not organized in an obvious way and I made some mistakes assuming that two boxes had the same lot number…
I had one win, a single box from my latest three month supply. Maybe there is some merit to Walmart’s apparently inability to supply in date order.
lol, the FUD topic was how I found out. Tell T1Allison and ClaudnDaye I said thanks! But the rest is insanity. Insulet isn’t doing much better communicating the problem and solutions.
I had to call in because the web forms couldn’t handle me. The outsourced call center can only handle replacing unopened pods. I was using a recalled pod when I found out. I got transferred to Omnipod Tier 2 support to handle that, and they did it quickly. Apparently a ninjaneer has to fix the reason I didn’t get the notification email. Got a laugh from the guy when I wished him luck with today.
I was chatting with some Loop users today, one mentioned they’d struggle to calc a meal bolus without the app. Anyone who needs help planning what to do in the event of an unplanned pump vacation give a shout. Plenty of people here that have experienced different kinds of emergencies and can help figure out a plan that works for you.
Ah, so the failed “communication ID email” is not just me… I forgot to check my current box of pods Fortunately it’s the same lot as most of the others I have; thanks for that reminder.
The CSR I spoke to (about the unused box) was very helpful even giving me an appropriate, “No comment.” response when I observed that Amazon Logistics could currently get me stuff in less than 24 hours, not the “2 days” Insulet will take to get me the replacement box on Saturday (unlikely where I live, unless they use Amazon Logistics which delivers ~8x7.)
It’s a particular problem with something like Dynamic ISF (AAPS), where the Carb Sensitivity/Insulin Coverage has to be multiplied by a percentage. Even without that I just use 10g/IU despite my current “IC” of 9.5g/IU. My carb-measurement-accuracy is at absolute best +/-20%, worse with packaged food where the FDA requirement (last time I saw it discussed) is -20%,+100% (i.e. the actual carbs can be anywhere between 80% and 200% of the label).
Using “10” just makes it easy when the input data is a multiple of “5” and, anyway, I only have single-unit syringes so it’s something of a crapshot.
I think both the Omnipod PDM and AAPS can be used without an active pump (pod) to calculate a mathematically appropriate bolus. I have an active pod ATM so I can’t experiment to check how to do it.
Did you get your replacements? Fedex delivered mine Saturday. I restarted pumping on Sunday. Picked up the “in case of emergency” novolog pens as soon as they were available, Monday
Well I would not have but I had a delivery from China that Amazon said was delivered but couldn’t tell me how; I went down to the gate, a half hour ago, and I found this, frying in the sun:
It contained two boxes (so 10 pods, not the 5 I was expecting) and a return label/baggies. It was overnighted, but FedEx does not overnight or weekend here so that means four days. The shipping date on the label says “May 29”. FedEx have the gate code but there again FedEx is the Cerberus of US delivery and apparently not all the heads know the code…
Looks like FedEx in Jackson County got the box at 8AM this morning. It’s difficult to know when it arrived; we don’t go out every day (maybe every three) and my wife didn’t notice it this morning, but then she didn’t notice the love-note from Pacific Power either:
I should probably put the 'phone number on the gate. Most of the time when people come down Holton Creek Road they get a sort of Deliverance moment and what to leave ASAP.
Still trying to work out why my gate opened itself while I was looking for the trees Pacific Power wants to remove; time to check the gate camera…
