I have been T1 for 53 years, I’m in my early sixties. I think I may be suffering from clinical depression. Can someone point me towards some helpful resources please? TIA
Please forgive the overreaction but just in case the UK NHS says
If it’s an emergency or you need urgent help
- If you or someone else is in danger, call 999 or go to A&E now
- If you need urgent help for your mental health, get help from NHS 111 online or call 111
Your mental health is as important as your physical health. You will not be wasting anyone’s time.

Hi Rod. I am sorry you are not feeling as well as you would normally. Depression is a very treatable problem, and it can affect and be affected by your T1D. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your primary care doctor or internist and discuss your symptoms with them. If they think psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy or both together would help, they are likely to know mental health professionals to whom you could be referred. If you do decide to see someone, you can check with your insurance carrier first, if you will need to use insurance, to see who those in your network are. You can also call hospitals near you and ask for the referral office, to see if you can find someone to help you this way. Still another method would be to contact the American Psychiatric and American Psychology Associations to find your local organizations to help find help from a psychiatrist or other mental health professional. I hope you feel better.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply Lee
