hi i’m nicole and i was just recently diagnosed. i’m 16 and kinda want some friends with t1d to connect with i guess
Hi Nicole! Welcome to the forum!
How are you doing with your diagnosis?
I’m also 16, I was diagnosed almost 4 years ago. The first year was really hard. Connecting with other people who have T1D helps a lot!
Have you gotten a CGM yet?
Have you gotten your omnipod yet? How do you like it!?
i’m doing better then i thought i would with it but ofc some days are harder then others. my step brother actually got diagnosed when he was around 9 so i was always familiar with it. and i did. get a cgm i have the dexcom g7 i got it put on at the hospital so that’s good i got one right away but i’m on my second on now. can’t wait to start talking about pumps though!
Wow so you really are a newbie! That’s nice that you had some familiarity with diabetes- probably helps ease at least a little of the shock and stress of the unknown.
That’s awesome that you got the G7 so quickly! I had to wait 6 months before starting the dex g6, and I’m currently on the tandem tslim. I’ve heard that the G7 sometimes doesn’t stick very well for the full 10 days. Have you had issues with that? Do you have any pumps that you’re excited about?
Btw, anyone who’s taking college board tests- AP, PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc - remember to apply for college board accommodations 2-3 months in advance to your test date! 504 plans don’t cover these tests.
Otherwise they won’t let you bring your diabetes supplies with you to the test (phone/meter/insulin/snacks/etc).
i haven’t had any problems with it so far and it’s been really accurate so that’s good. and for pumps i don’t really know yet but my next dr appointment is next month so hopefully i’ll have more info on them! how do you like your pump?
I’ve been with the tandem for 2.5 years now, overall it’s a great pump. I have some trouble with the control iq algorithm (that’s the pump software that gives automatic corrections if you’re high and stops insulin if you’re low) but I’m an anomaly, most people love it. It’s amazing with avoiding overnight lows. Before I used to have at least 1 low a night, with the technology I have none. Overall I think the app and the pump are easy to use and I’ve had a great experience. It is a tubed pump, but it’s relatively small. I’m not the gentlest person with my pump- it’s survived a lot of abuse (ocean dunks, drops, collisions with walls, many overseas trips, etc). It’s also got a touch screen (not a whole lot of tubed pumps have that).
But you should also check out the omnipod pump, it’s a patch pump and doesn’t have any tubes or anything. Sort of like an oversized dexcom. You control it from a cell phone. It also has a hybrid closed loop algorithm that corrects for highs and stops insulin for lows. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
i’m not sure which one i’m gonna go for i would maybe like the omnipod but i’m not sure if it works with the g7 so i have to wait and see what we can figure out!
Hi @nicole_cobb . I’m on Omnipod5 and it does not yet work with the G7. I haven’t heard when it may be compatible - I think we’ll have to check their website for updates.
yeah.i really like it. what are you useing?
Im using tandem’s t:slim and the dexcom g6. I can’t wait to upgrade to the g7! (Hopefully next year??? They’re always sooooo slow with updates)
Do you like the tslim or is the tubing an issue?
Haha I answered and one of the moderators moved my post to another topic. Here’s the link to the other topic:
What do you think are pros/cons of tubing vs tubeless pumps!
Hi! My names Bekah, I’m 19 and I’ve been T1D for about 8 years now.
Would love to talk and communicate with some people that just get it:)
Hi Bekah, welcome to the forum!
I hope you’re able to connect with people.
What devices are you using? By your age I’m assuming you recently graduated from high school?
I’m a junior and currently on the tslim/dex combo. I’ve had T1D for almost 4 years.
Yes! I graduated last year
I used to be on Tslim and Dexcom g6 but recently stopped using my pump, got a little tired of having the tube on me all the time. Now I just use dex and recently got upgraded to the g7! I was reading the forum and saw you were looking to get it and I love it! I’ve found it really only works on the back of my arm (where they tell you to put it lol)
Yes I’ve got an endo appointment soon and I’m going to be asking when I can get the G7! That’s interesting to hear that it only works for you on the back of your arm. I usually put my g6 on my arm but I’ve had mixed success putting it on my thigh.
I get so tired of the tubing sometimes, I usually take pump breaks during school vacations. I don’t like having to take shots in school so I’m sticking with the pump for now.

Hey y’all I’m curious and needing a laugh.
Are there any things that you do because of diabetes that other people think are crazy?
I love the classic reaction when I say “I’m high” or my sister tells people “yeah she’s fine she’s just high”
Today my mom found out that I loop my tubing around my underwear to avoid yanking my sites out if I drop my pump. The look on her face was a mixture of “that’s genius” and “my daughter is crazy”
