Hi i am new to this but i was wondering if i could ask if anyone else struggles with binge eating. Its something i started a few years ago before i had my insulin pump when i got the pump things improved but when i lost my grandad in September this year the last few months have been really hard my bloods have been all over the place and i have been eating at night i do allow for what i eat but its not exactly healthy eating. I also struggle with getting to sleep at night i am often laying awake just staring at the celing. I feel drained and fed up of my diabetes.
Hello @AlicePalace welcome to Beyond Type 1. I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. I don’t have much experience with binge eating but I do have some experience with anxiety and depression. If your behavior is causing you to suffer I suggest you try to talk to someone like a therapist. Depression is common with diabetes and taking care of yourself with this disease is exhausting. It sounds to me like you could use a little help, when it happened to me I found therapy very helpful.
Do you have access to some kind of counseling? I’m not sure if the process for where you live
Hi @AlicePalace and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry for your loss. Managing grief is hard and doing it on top of diabetes is even more difficult. Don’t be too hard on yourself - forgive yourself for not being “perfect” or even good. A grief support group might help you process your loss - sometimes sharing with others going through the same thing can help with healing. And as @joe suggested you might seek out a counselor who can help if you are going through depression.
A thought just popped into my mind since you want to eat more healthfully: it’s easy (oh so easy) for me to go for junk food if something better isn’t readily available. Maybe try cooking ahead - instead of preparing individual dinners make a dish that will last a few days, then portion them into same size servings and make a note of the carb count so you can plug it in without looking it up each time. Same for snacks - portion out servings of carrots, celery and peanut butter, or your favorite sweet treat so they’re ready to grab and go. Having the counts ready rather than looking them up each time might be freeing.
Please keep us posted on how you’re doing, and I’m looking forward to your contributions on the forum.
Hi I have tried looking into therapy but there aren’t many that are free the ones you have to pay for can be expensive. It’s hard to find one. I don’t think there are many options for grief support or for support with type 1.
