Tandem Mobi first impressions

I have had that same problem with CIQ, opposite problem with sleep mode. High basal wasn’t enough to bring me down when I was high.

Hi @6yGodsGr sleep mode overnight works like a charm for me. I lied to CIQ put in about 15 pounds heavier than I am 9% heavier roughly. Works perfect! It’s the “I know I’m high because I’m about to do a marathon and I need to be high” intelligence that CIQ lacks. Overnight is so good I would never want to give up CIQ.

I had the same issue with sleep mode, my endo realized I needed to up my basal limit on the pump. I still have the same issue with excercise mode. Turning off CIQ and starting a temp mode of the lowest possible percentage is the only way I know of right now. I’d stop it entirely but I hate that the resume alarm is so immediate and frequent. At least with the X2 it had an option to extend the alarm up to an hour, apparently that will be a future update to the mobi so I’m looking forward to that

Hi @BellasheaT1D i use a temp rate of zero on mobi it only complains once. If I “stop insulin” the dumb thing alarms over and over.

Hey did the pump charge fixture work out- did someone 3D print it for you? I’ll probably post it to “Thingiverse” so anyone can get to it.

Yes! Works perfectly. Great idea to post for others as well. Thanks again

If anyone wants the red charging fixture (pictured above). I posed the design file to “Thingiverse” and it is a free download. (google “thingiverse” and follow link). Once you are there - just do a search for “Tandem Mobi” and the STL design file comes right up. Special note: The design file is for people who have, or have access to a 3D printer.

Thank you, Joe! This is a good site for downloads. I hadn’t seen it before, but I got your charging dock plus a few other items I had been looking to try to print.

I am considering switching from Omnipod to Tandem Mobi and am wondering about the 5" tubing - sometimes it’s the little things that drive you crazy😫 so I wanted to get some impressions before I commit. if you have tried it what do you think - is it awkward? Does it feel annoying by rubbing your skin?
Thanks! I’m planning for down the road.

Hi Dorie I don’t use the short version cannula or the “adhesive sleeve” I just put mobi in my pocket or use the belt clip The only really awkward move is disconnecting or reconnecting you have to have an infusion set that is “one hand friendly”. Tubing never bothered me. I’m using XC for now it is a 90 degree plastic cannula and 23” tubing. I can disconnect with 1 hand but I like to use 2 hands because the set is small and I feel better holding the base when removing the clip.

Hi, I’ve used the 5 inch with the sleeve and the longer one with the clip. I loved the sleeve with the short tubing it felt like what I would expect the omnipod tubeless experience to be like. The sleeve lasted about ten days for me so I would just rotate the infusion site around the sleeve area until it was time for a new sleeve. The only drawback there is that insurance doesn’t cover the sleeves so you have to purchase them separately after using the two they include in the kit. I believe it’s a 10 pack for $25, and $50 for free shipping.
I only stopped using the sleeves and shorter tubing so I wouldn’t have the worlds worst tan line over the summer, but the clip with longer tubing isn’t bad at all, much lighter than the tslim X2 and the control IQ is worth any hestitations you might have, once you switch and become familiar with it you will realize how much of the burden it takes for you. It’s life changing.

So for all of you out there that have switched, have you seen a difference in the monthly cost of pump supplies? I know everyone’s insurance may be different, but use your old pump’s monthly cost as a baseline. Thanks

Hi @Steelhead my insurance is through work and any kind of diabetes script is $20 for 3 months. No increases in cost for me

WOW! You have some awesome insurance. Between CGMs, pump sullies, and insulin I pay about $900 for 3 months.

Are you paying a percentage of the cost of the items instead of a flat copay amount? If so consider asking for someone to check an EOB for the plan paid amount for reservoirs and infusions sets to see if there is any increase in cost that might affect you.

My plan charges $0 for DME but costs $935 a month for the plan so your costs might not be so bad.

Hi Chris, I work for a big company and my pharmacy copay is a flat 20 for any 3 month script unless it’s less (like synthroid) and then I pay less. So insulin, infusion sets, cartridges are 3 pharmacy scripts and so it’s 60 bucks total for 3 months. My DME deductible is 1000 so when I get a new pump I do pay (since it’s coinsurance) I pay the grand up front then it’s 80% up to out of pocket max). With a FSA (also through work) at least the grand is tax free and I can spend it early even if I didn’t have 1000 worth of paycheck deductions. The insurance situations are so different in the US it’s tough to give help to folks making financial decisions about if they want a pump or which kind. I know I’m really fortunate with my work plan it’s one of the bigger reasons I work there.

I have used the mobi for a few weeks. First impressions…love the size, easy to fill infusion set, easy to bolus using iPhone. Major drawbacks-No screen which drives me crazy. I have my phone right by my bed so if it alerts it’s there to check my blood sugar. I don’t like needing to have my phone with me 24/7 for EVERYTHING! Reliant on use of iPhone which is scary. If your battery goes dead you need to have your glucometer or a second iPhone ready. Maybe they should have another device for users. I know it is small because it doesn’t need to have all the info that would be on a screen, but the trade off is you need your phone. Is it worth it? I am thinking of returning it and just getting another Tslim X2.

hi @Learnmore3 welcome to Breakthrough T1D. I did buy a used iPhone and cloned it, I use it as an emergency backup but I set the multifunction button for quick bolus, and between the button and my CGM (on my watch) I would survive the day without my phone. just a thought in case you keep it. Good luck!

When I was considering Omnipod5 a couple of years ago I was dissuaded by the fact that you had to use a controller. There are no buttons on the pod to use if you forget it or the battery dies. Eventually I decided to go for it and haven’t ever left it behind. TBH there have been a couple of times I didn’t check the battery and had to charge it up but it didn’t take long to get enough to dry what I wanted to do. I’m generally pretty fanatical about plugging in my devices and do that when I’m sitting around. My iphone charges pretty quickly and I can use it while it’s plugged in.
Hopefully that will give you some reassurance on that front. My concern would be if the device were lost or stolen - I purchased a spare Omnipod controller for that purpose but of course getting an iPhone would be much more expensive - although you could get an older model on eBay.
All that said though, there is something reassuring about knowing you can do what you need to do directly from your pump. How long do they give you to try it out and trade it in?

Just wish they had my blood sugar listed on the Moby. That would solve everything for me. Of course not having the screen is why they can make it so small.

3 months return policy. I checked.
