Tandem t-slim X2

I received this pump 4 weeks ago. Nothing from Tandem for another 2 weeks. But when I was trying to decide on a pump I heard from them every day. Since I started to use it a week ago, the pump and my cgm, Dexcim G7 and the pump lose constant communication. It alarms all the time despite being less than 2 feet apart. The app on my phone and the pump lose contact all the time every day until I unpair them and reconnect them. Even then they can lose communication quickly. Less than an hour. So sorryly disappointed in this pump. I wish I didn’t get it and went with a different one. I’ve been a Type 1 diabetic for over 55 years. I’ve had 2 medtronic pumps and 2 Tandem pumps in the past. For the last 6 years I’ve been self injecting. I find this pump to be ridiculous. The customer support sucks. Literally sucks. I contacted them via there website and put in my questions and contact info. They called me back the next day while I was in operating room. At that time I let them know I couldn’t talk. The ask when they should call call back. I let them know in 3-4 hours. This is at 1137am. They call back at 703pm. I’m out to dinner and can’t take their call. Never heard from again. Once I committed to buying the pump that was the response I received after. Tandem is great when you are trying to decide on a pump but once you decide on Tandem they are gone. The support sucks.

Hi @tad62 . I’m sorry - and surprised - to hear about your experience with Dexcom. I can’t help with that but one thing that helps when I’m having issues with my phone (I use iPhone) is resetting my network settings. I can’t explain it technically but can only say it seems to clear out junk that was in the background. I do have to re-enter the password for my home wifi - otherwise everything works normally again.

I’m assuming David @tad62 , that you have properly adjusted all settings to “fit” your new pump and that Tandem Technical Support agrees with your settings. The purchase is so recent that I believe you can return the pump and get all moneys back - none of us should experience the frustration you describe. The t-Slim x2 that I’ve been using since January 2024 has a significantly inferior signal quality than my previous Tandem devices - but not as severe as what you describe.

If you decide to move to the MiniMed 780G Paradigm, it now pairs with a new Abbott Libre sensor. One principal reason I didn’t change to the 780G was the Medtronic history trying to manufacture a decent CGM. Not that when pairing the 780G with the Libre, a single fingerstick is required and then nothing more for the 15-day lifespan.

Decision time for you.

It has been my experience with Tandem and Dexcom that if I need technical support, that I actually call them on a phone. I am always prepared to wait for about 30 minutes. Once I get a technician I get my answers. The entire world is like this now to be honest.

G7 has a notoriously weak Bluetooth signal. Tandem x2 has a known receiver issue. The pump should be worn or in a pocket with the glass facing your body.
In the communication world, most issues are on the receiver end. It is possible you received a pump with a Bluetooth issue and after you do some mandatory troubleshooting over the phone, Tandem will likely send you another pump because the new one has a warranty. Hope you can work this out and good luck :shamrock:

I always though it was the opposite: the screen has to face away from your body per Maintaining Bluetooth connections with CGMs and pumps | Bionic Wookiee

Either way @tad62 try wearing the pump the opposite way from what you are doing now for two days and see if it reduces the number of missed communications. That blog post does a good job of explaining that we humans are big bags of water and Bluetooth doesn’t go through water.

@spdif @tad62 @Dennis yes i am wrong! Haha. Cant keep up sometimes! Glass out and same side. Pardon my stupidity this time.

I was told to wear it with glass out also. Either way it doesn’t matter. My phone and CGM have no problems with the Bluetooth and my phone is often not as close to my cgm as my pump is. If the issue persists I will replace the pump.

I just remembered something: it’s been a while since I’ve done this but occasionally I used to wear my sensor on my thigh, and when I wore jeans I would have issues with connection. It only happened with jeans so I guess it was something about denim.
