I was reading the new edition of Mens Health and they have an article on supplements. They list Psyllium Husk as the must have supplement for Diabetes. Anyone else take this or have any experience with it? I just saw my Dr last week or I would ask him.
I think that is just a source of fiber. Like Metamucil.
I don't, but my wife swears by this stuff. She's not the diabetic. She drinks it down every night at bedtime in orange juice and is pleasantly relieved every morning, if you know what I mean. I don't seem to have that trouble.
This is an old thread, but am reviving due to a question that I have. Is Metamucil psyllium powder good in pill form? I’m have trouble finding it in plain no flavor powder without sugar. I don’t want the orange flavor due to acid, i made the mistake of taking it at night and it caused some acid reflux.
Hi @HighHopes
I use psyllium husk in much of my baking because it helps gluten free recipes not fall apart. I order plain psyllium husk on Amazon or buy it at our local health food store. There are several unflavored /unsweetened varieties. Some brands’ psyllium is less finely ground than others, which might be something that matters if you plan on drinking it. They all work equally well in baked goods.
@HSGerber , I tried the plain husk as you described, but it seemed as if it didn’t impact me the same way equate (Metamucil like) brand does. I rarely get Metamucil brand since store brands are less expensive.
I skipped my daily Metamucil yesterday and just has my Miralax and I seemed to be fine with that regarding my digestion. I may do the husk every other day.
